LEETON, Mo. — Leeton R-X School District has announced the hiring of Carey Phariss as the new High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach and Middle School/High School Special Education Teacher for the upcoming school year.

Coach Phariss brings more than 20 years of high school and collegiate basketball coaching experience to Leeton. Throughout his coaching career, he has focused on building successful programs that emphasize athletic achievement, academic excellence, and character development.

School officials say Phariss has coached numerous athletic and academic All-Americans at the collegiate level, while also leading teams that consistently earned strong team GPAs.

A former multi-sport college athlete, Phariss competed in both basketball and baseball. He also served as a student assistant and manager for the 2002 NAIA National Champion Men’s Basketball Team at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Phariss earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 2002 and later completed a Master of Education degree in Sports Management in 2013.

Known for his “Tough but Fair” coaching philosophy, Phariss says he is passionate about helping students grow both on and off the court through accountability, discipline, encouragement, and strong relationships.

Leeton schools welcomed Coach Phariss to the Bulldog family and encouraged the community to give him a warm Bulldog welcome ahead of the new school year.
